How we look at the gifts of the Holy Spirit depends on how we, as believers, allow God's Word to give us direction and vision for our future. We must be willing to have our eyes opened to receive, by faith, the truth of God's Word honorably and reverently before the Lord.
Over the past few weeks we saw in our studies how the Book of 1 Corinthians chapter 11 dealt with rightly deserving our taking the elements of communion. Then in Chapter 12 it spoke to us about the nine Gifts of the Spirit and how they operated.
Now I would liken to take a look at a very important key that causes all of this to work together in bringing edification io the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:1
1 "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal."
This word "charity" is another word for love. I have witnessed all nine gifts of the Spirit in operation, and it’s no wonder a lot of people have trouble receiving them in the manner that they are used. These gifts are God's expression of His love to you, through the Holy Spirit.
Example: I was in a church service in Oklahoma when a woman stood up and walked up to the front of the church and began saying, "Thus says the Lord." She then pointed her finger at a man sitting on the front row and humiliated him in front of the whole congregation. I was appalled by her actions and did not understand why the pastor did not stop her to restore some kind of dignity back to this man. He left the church and never came back there again. Within six months the church had shut down, and it broke my heart. God loves this woman, this man, the pastor, and his congregation.
Father, help us to see Your massive love through the gifts that You have for us and to receive Your forgiveness. In Jesus's name, Amen.
Blessings on the journey, and remember that the best is yet to come.
