1 Corinthians 12:10
10 "...TO ANOTHER DIVERS KINDS OF TONGUES..."
Back in the mid-80s I was talking to a woman in a small town in the State of Missouri about the subject of speaking in tongues. I asked her, "Have you ever noticed that the Full Gospel circle of believers make such a big deal about speaking in tongues?" She quickly agreed with me saying she didn’t understand why.
It even says in the Word that tongues is one of the least of the gifts. It makes a statement that we should seek the Gift of Prophecy which will edify the church and she quickly agreed with me. Then I asked her why would God trust us with the greater gifts when we cannot even move in the least of the gifts?
The conversation quickly went silent and it seemed like time stood still. She broke the silence by saying I didn’t have to say it that way. She prayed with me and instantly started speaking in tongues for the first time in her life.
I want to know more about this gift, don’t you? Let's look at the Word where it says “divers kinds if tongues” in First Corinthians 12:10. This word is italicized, which means that it was added by the translator. Actually, this verse reads, “. . . to another, kinds of tongues. . . .” In yesterday's devotion I stated that this man said I was speaking in Greek. I have to my knowledge never spoke in that language before.
1 Corinthians 14:22 (KJV)
22 "Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not:"
Help me, Holy Spirit, to make it easy to understand just how important this gift is. It must be important enough for it to be written in the Word of God for us. I pray this in Jesus's name, Amen.
Blessings on the journey, and remember that the best is yet to come.
