The Gifts of Prophecy and Tongues: Part Four

January 14, 2022

Here is a list of things that I found while searching out what God is making available to us through the Gift of Prophecy. It was found in the Blue Letter Bible.

“1. Edification is “building up.” It is a construction term, and speaks of our being “built up” in the Lord. As of prophecy will build someone up, not tear him or her down.

"2. Exhortation is encouragement. It is like the speech from the coach in the locker room before the big game, rallying the team to go out and perform as they were trained to perform. A word of prophecy will encourage someone, not discourage him or her.

"3. Comfort has the idea of not only consoling, but also strengthening. It doesn’t just cry with someone hurting, it puts its arms around them and strengthens them to carry the load. A word of prophecy will strengthen, not weaken someone.”

Over the years I have witnessed the Gift of Tongues, when activated, bring ca supernatural exchange of words while spoken that would lead someone to Christ.

My twin brother, Dane, prayed for a gang member in Honduras in tongues and the man was saved. He later found out that he was speaking perfect Spanish. My brother could not speak Spanish at the time.

Glinda Springer, a pastor friend of ours, was with us at a meeting one year while in Honduras, and was singing in the spirit. A group of kids were listening to her sing. Later we found out that they understood her in Spanish as well. She could not speak Spanish either. God was using the gifts of the Spirit to reach out to them in a supernatural expression of His love for them.

Father, forgive us for all of our inabilities to judge the move of the Spirit as You chose to perform Your Word in their lives. We stand in awe of You, Almighty God. In Jesus's name, Amen.

Blessings on the journey, and remember that the best is yet to come.
